They did not mean to send you here, but here you are anyways, so let's talk.
During World War II, America faced an existential threat to our way of life, and over 200,000 brave Americans gave their lives to preserve it. They shipped out, overseas, to a country that wasn't their own, away from their family and friends, to fight and kill to protect our way of life, and they ultimately gave their life for it.
Back at home, Americans rationed and scavenged to support the war effort, uniting as a country around putting our country before ourselves.
Our country's way of life is once again under threat, from an unseen enemy that is killing hundreds of thousands of Americans. But this time, we don't need to ration. We don't need to scavenge. We don't need to fight or kill, or give our lives to protect our families.
This time we are being asked to sacrifice in three small ways:
Never, in the face of such a threat to our nation, have Americans been asked to sacrifice so little.
Set aside for a moment what rights you have, or think you have. This isn't a question of rights, it's a question of doing what's right.
The county this sign was taken in has been shut down for six months. Our schools are still doing distance learning. Our small businesses are still suffering, and ultimately closing. Our friends and neighbors are still getting sick and dying.
If we could all come together and sacrifice a tiny bit of comfort for two months, we could go back to our normal lives.
But we can't. We're being selfish, and our country is paying the price. Every other developed nation is going back to life as usual without people dying. We're the only ones who care more about ourselves than our country.
We're being un-American.
Do the right thing. For your family, your neighbors, your community, your country.
Wear a fucking mask.
